In 2024, the cancellation of The Acolyte, a Star Wars series that had captured our hearts, sadly ended after just one season. The show had set up multiple intriguing plot threads for future seasons, including those of Qimir played by Manny Jacinto and Osha played by Amandla Stenberg, as well as the introduction of Darth Plagueis the Wise in live-action for the first time.

There has been considerable discussion about the reasons behind The Acolyte's cancellation. While many have pointed to poor viewership, new evidence that challenges this claim has emerged. A Luminate report, a reputable industry analytics firm highlighting the year's top movies and TV shows, revealed that The Acolyte was the second most watched show on Disney+, falling short of only Percy Jackson and The Olympians, which did get a second season confirmed by Disney.

The Acolyte concluded the year with 2,673 million minutes watched, which is significantly lower than Percy Jackson and The Olympians, with 3,070 million minutes watched. The Bad Batch finished the year with only 923 million minutes watched, which was still ahead of Star Wars Skeleton Crew, the most recent series that concluded the year with 914 million minutes watched.

This evidence has sparked a wave of frustration towards Disney among fans on Tumblr and other social media platforms, which is entirely valid. This shared frustration of the Cancellation has united the fans in an ongoing campaign to save the show, and it will be interesting to see how that turns out along with the new evidence.

Manny Jacinto also discussed the show's original vision with Collider's Maggie Lovitt, revealing that showrunner Leslye Headland had planned for 'three seasons and a movie.' Although Star Wars has numerous films in development, it would have been fascinating to see a movie centered around The Acolyte, especially one set outside the Skywalker Saga, offering a fresh perspective and new narrative possibilities.

We now have evidence that "The Acolyte" deserved to continue.
