Dafne Keen Talks About the Sudden Cancellation of ‘The Acolyte’.
The series was unique, set during the High Republic Era, approximately a hundred years before the Skywalker saga. However, "The Acolyte" faced significant backlash even before its release. Some viewers engaged in review-bombing, inundating the internet with negative reactions before seeing it.
In August of last year, Disney officially canceled the series, marking it as the first Star Wars show on Disney+ to be discontinued. Keen acknowledged that this news was disappointing for everyone involved, but she expressed gratitude for the experience.
“I think we were all very proud of what we created,’ she told Screen Rant’s Tessa Smith. “I was very proud [of my character], I was very proud of how my friend Amandla handled the situation. And honestly, I’m a huge nerd myself, so I was just really happy that I got to play a Jedi. Bucket list ticked.”
For Keen, becoming a Jedi was a dream come true, even though the show didn't last long. She also praised Amandla Stenberg, who faced intense backlash. Stenberg had previously spoken out about the racism and sexism she and others experienced from certain segments of the Star Wars community.
